Project Backboard @ Elk Street Park

Placemaking comes in many forms and through many different actions. This year we are embarking on our most visible and visual placemaking program yet with our revitalization of Elk Street Park in partnership with community members and Project Backboard, a national non-profit that works to revitalize basketball courts in bright and vibrant ways.

Join us on Sunday, March 10th @ 1:30 p.m. at the AME Zion Church (135 E. Fulton Street) to help us in the early stages of the project. We need to hear from YOU and learn what you what the park to look like. More details will follow after this very important meeting!

Downtown Ambassador Program

We are currently exploring the creation of a Downtown Ambassador program similar to the Schenectady Ambassadors. We are seeking community members, downtown organizations and businesses who would like to sit on the exploratory committee.

If you are interested in learning more about the Downtown Ambassador Program or how you can become involved, please call or email our Downtown Development Specialist, Jennifer Jennings. She may be reached at 518.725.7700 ext. 1004 or

Downtown Business Assistance

In 2019, the DDS office will be launching an information, education and mentorship program to work with local businesses. The first step in the process is a SWOT analysis. SWOT stands for Strengths – Weaknesses – Opportunities – Threats and is a collaborative process that takes place through a facilitated meeting and exchange of ideas. A survey on business needs and areas of opportunity and learning will be conducted as a result of the SWOT discussions.

Thank you to those who participated in our SWOT! We have a new action steps group that meets monthly to create solutions to some of the threats and weaknesses identified.

Would you like to participate in the Action Steps Committee?
If so, please contact the Downtown Development Specialist, Jennifer Jennings, at 518.725.7700 ext. 1004 or
