Downtown Gloversville will be hosting a two-day conference for community members, elected officials and state-wide economic development professionals April 29 and 30, 2020 called Placemaking 2020. The event is a continuation of the successful Placemaking 101 conference held in April 2018 (more details here). Placemaking 2020 helps area organizations, local governments, economic development agencies and community members learn the basics of placemaking, a multi-faceted approach to community-driven change and sustainable economic growth. Nationally recognized speakers and experts in the field will be on-hand for lectures and break-out sessions throughout the conference’s two days.
A full week of events
Gloversville has become a best practices example of how a community can transform through placemaking efforts. Over the last three years, the Downtown Development Specialist office has worked with community members, downtown businesses, non-profits and City departments to educate, empower and support bottom-up efforts to create positive, lasting change. In 2020, the City will host a Placemaking Week which will include:
- Placemaking 2020 – April 29 & 30
- Placemaking in Gloversville: a dinner celebration – April 29
- 100in1 Day: Gloversville – May 2
A step above the rest
Gloversville is a leader in placemaking. The DDS’ focus on community-generated change culminated in 100in1 Day: Gloversville, hosted on May 4, 2019. 100in1 Day is an international day of action where 100 acts of positivity occur on one day across a city. Begun in Bogota, Columbia in 2012, the international effort is now in over 60 countries. Gloversville is the first in the United States to host a 100in1 Day event.
Sponsorship for Placemaking 2020 is now open. We are seeking sponsors from the $175 to $2,500. Full details about sponsoring this event are available here.
